Dr. Jim Garlow sits down with Alliance Defending Freedom’s (ADF) Senior Counsel, Jeremiah Galus, to discuss the lawsuit Skyline Wesleyan Church v. California Department of Managed Health Care. For 23 years, Dr. Garlow was the Senior Pastor of Skyline Church in San Diego, California up until the end of 2018. On May 13, 2020, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit ruled Wednesday that a San Diego–area church properly challenged the state’s abortion-coverage mandate and that a lower district court was wrong to dismiss the church’s claims. The 9th Circuit recognized that Skyline Church suffered an injury when the state issued its August 2014 letters mandating that church healthcare plans cover elective abortions. ADF is seeking to protect Skyline Church and all churches from government mandates that violate their sincerely held religious beliefs, in particular when they are forced to pay for ending human life.
